OFT Members Julie Sellers and Elizabeth Jones Win Seats on STRS Board

COLUMBUS — Today, the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) Ohio announced election results for three seats on the Retirement Board that governs the system. Julie Sellers, an elementary school teacher who currently serves as President of the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers, won a contributing member seat and Elizabeth Jones, a retired high school English teacher and Guidance Counselor who currently serves as President of the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers—Retired, won a retiree seat.

Sellers and Jones released the following joint statement:

“STRS contributing members and retirees are united in the fight for a secure retirement for all educators in Ohio. Voters decided we needed a change from the status quo because we’ve seen it get harder for contributing members to retire and we’ve seen retired members go years without a cost of living adjustment.

We’re committed to working with other Board members to build a retirement system that allows every Ohio educator to retire with security and dignity, ensure that STRS operates transparently, and be a voice for those who want change”
