Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) has developed a new flyer, Connecting Students with Work, aimed at students and educators after extensive feedback from local districts and stakeholders.
HB 438 allows for ESCs to facilitate the renewal of licenses for those teachers who are not currently working in a school or retired and would like to renew their licenses to do so through an LPDC. ESC of Northeast Ohio (ESCNEO) has put a process in place for educators working without a LPDC (non-employees).
Senate Bill 216 requires that beginning July 1, 2019, all classroom teachers providing instruction in a core subject area must be properly certified or licensed. The Office of Educator Licensure has prepared guidance to help teachers and schools meet this requirement. To access this guidance click here.
The state board approved revised clock hours and the timeline for implementation of professional development requirements for general educators designated by their district to provide gifted service. See the rule changes.

If you receive a letter from the Ohio Department of Education asking you to get fingerprinted even though you do not believe you are due for fingerprinting, do not panic. You are not in trouble. Your license is not in immediate jeopardy. ODE has found a small percentage of licensed educators who are not enrolled in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Rapback system and their fingerprints are needed.
